Biofuel ready

Case IH is committed to adopting alternative, sustainable fuel solutions.

That’s why the majority of Case IH equipment is now 100 per cent biofuel approved. We fully support B5 blends in all current and past models, as well as B20 in more than 90 per cent of Australian models.

Many models sold globally, including Axial-Flow combines are approved for B100. Biofuels are a certain part of all our futures - as we look to reduce dependence on ever-depleting petroleum fuels, improve our environment and increase self sustainability.

Case IH is committed to pushing towards higher-level biodiesel blends that will be compatible with low-emissions and productive engines. Talk to your dealer if you’re not sure what biofuel blend to use in your tractor or consult our list.

What is biodiesel?

Biodiesels are alternative fuels produced from renewable resources such as vegetable oils, recycled cooking greases or oils or animal fats. They burn cleanly with fewer emissions so are better for the environment. Biodiesel is biodegradable, non-toxic and essentially free from sulphur and aromatics. In fact, biodiesel is less toxic than table salt and biodegrades as fast as sugar!

How does it affect me?

Although supplies aren’t readily available and most farmers aren’t yet using biodiesel, it is only a matter of time. It is important, therefore, to begin following a few simple guidelines. While these guidelines are essential for farmers using biodiesel, they are also excellent habits to get into with your existing equipment.

What can I do right now?

Because of the organic nature of biodiesel, it requires special treatment to ensure it stays clean throughout storage and usage. Detailed information about using biodiesel for your particular equipment is available from your local Case IH dealer. In general, you need to:

  • Only use biodiesels from a trusted source that meet recognised standards such as EN14214, ASTM D6751 or DIN 51606
  • Use preblends rather than blending on the farm, which can result in a non-homogenous mixture
  • Follow recommended maintenance schedules for equipment fuel filters and water separators
  • Expect to change filters more frequently, particularly in the early stages of using biodiesel
  • Ensure proper fuel system maintenance, including proper storage and filtration of fuel
